My daughter spent a few years going to Stride before entering the school system. All the children in her class had one impairment or another. Needless to say I was very hesitant to send her to public school. How would she be treated? Would the other kids tease her and be mean to her? Would she have any friends? Would she enjoy being there?
I can't begin to explain how excited she is to go to school each day. She actually cries when she can't go due to being sick. The children there love her. She has friends from kindergarten through sixth grade. They stop in the halls to tell her hi, give her a hug, a high five, or to fist bump lol.
She works with two different para professionals. She has had the same two ladies since first grade. One works with her for half the day and the other for the second half. If I had the money, I'd pay one of them to go with her into Junior High and beyond. Both of them are great with her.
I think everyone in the school knows who she is, including the janitor and they all take the time to stop and tell her hi when they see her.
What have your experiences been?

Not good so far. Nothing but issues with them. Everything seems to be a big fight

Unfortunately we've run into that problem quite often through the years. Catalina has even been compared to a dog pertaining to how the other children treat her. The person explained themselves saying that it wasn't meant to be a mean comment. All of the kids loved Catalina but there wasn't a lot of social interaction. A dog? That's all you could think to compare her to and didn't think I would take offense to it?
