We all know that words can hurt. For those with disabilities and their loved ones, the history of being labeled by society is very unpleasant. The history of these terms is a long one, transpiring into today's common use of the "R" word. These labels are dehumanizing, insulting, hurtful, and disrespectful. A strong advocate for Down Syndrome, John C. McGinley has said, there is no difference between the derogatory labels used to differentiate ethnic or religious minorities and the labels used against those with Down Syndrome.
There is no excuse to use these labels in society and it will not be tolerated on this site. Several words have been censored for this reason and will not appear in a title or a thread.
