I know from my research that many children with Down Syndrome have difficulty with potty training. I've been trying to potty train my daughter for what seems like years. Each year I say, "THIS will be the year!" We are still trying. She goes number 2 on her own whenever she needs to. Peeing in the potty is a different story. If I have her go every hour or so, she goes each time and stays dry. I don't think she understand what it feels like it when she has to go. Does anyone have any suggestions or success stories they can share?

Abby was almost 8 when she was trained . She went to a camp and the nurse at camp promised her a package of underwaer if she stayed dry for 2 days. It worked. She stays dry now. Sometimes she will not go for hours. I have to tell her to go. She tells me she a big girl. I am just worried she will get an infections.

That's great Carol!! Catalina loves Sponge Bob and I've tried to buy her Sponge Bob underwear but that didn't help either. I guess like most things, it will just take time.

Kamdyn is 4, and potty training is killing me! With Kamdyn and a one year old, I'm changing 6 poopy diapers a day, since they both go several times. Add the wet diapers, and I feel like half my day is diapers lol. Kamdyn goes through spurts where she does well and then nothing. We're in a "nothing" phase right now. A few months ago, she stayed dry for an entire day. Now she hardly uses the potty at all. Sometimes she'll go in the bathroom, take her clothes off and go like it's no big deal and other times I have to tell her to sit. There's no rhyme or reason to it. I've done this twice before so I feel like it has to click, and I'm not seeing that. She was motivated by m&m's, but I don't think that's much motivation any more. She's kind of over it, an daddy will give her an m&m whenever she wants, so it's not much use any more.

I know that feeling all too well!
I read somewhere Potty Training in One Day or something along those lines. You feed the child salty type food or snacks throughout the day and constantly give them water. I guess the point is to where they have to go to the bathroom multiple times a day. You're supposed to put the child in underwear (somehow that's easier). It's supposed to help realize the sensation of having to go. I tried it once over the weekend and after my couch, floor, and recliner had been peed on, I gave up.
